IS 15298 Certified
A construction worker and a pharma operator both need IS 15298-certified safety shoes. But they need completely different shoes. Using the wrong one means either poor protection on a hazardous worksite or unnecessary weight and discomfort on a lighter one. This guide cuts through the confusion — one section per industry, the specific hazards, the features that address them, and links to our in-depth guides for topics we've already covered in full.

Not ideally. Construction sites need heavy-duty steel toe caps, deep-lug TPU soles for rough terrain, and high ankle support. Warehouse work needs lighter shoes with SRC-rated soles for smooth floors and composite toes for long-shift comfort. Using construction boots in a warehouse causes unnecessary fatigue; using warehouse shoes on a construction site may not provide adequate ankle and sole protection.
Under India's Factories Act and the Personal Protective Equipment – Footwear Quality Control Order 2020, workers in hazardous environments must wear IS 15298 Part 2-certified safety footwear. Since January 2022, it is illegal to provide uncertified shoes. Employers bear the legal obligation — impact and compression protection, anti-puncture midsole, and slip resistance are the most commonly mandated features. Yes — significantly different. Food processing and pharma require composite toe caps (no metal contamination risk), ESD anti-static properties, chemical-resistant sole compounds, and easy-clean upper materials for GMP washdowns. Construction workers need steel toe caps, deep-lug soles for rough terrain, and high ankle support. Both need IS 15298 certification — but the specific feature set is completely different.
Steel conducts electricity. In environments with live electrical systems or transformer maintenance, a steel toe cap can complete an electrical circuit through the foot. Composite toe caps are non-metallic — they provide the same IS 15298-certified 200J impact protection without conducting electricity or heat. For all electrical workers, composite toe with EH (Electrical Hazard) rated sole is the mandatory combination. See: Steel Toe vs Composite Toe — Full Guide →
Yes — when IS 15298-certified. A certified sneaker-style shoe delivers the same 200J toe cap protection, 1,100N Kevlar anti-puncture midsole, and SRC slip resistance as a traditional heavy leather boot — at up to 50% less weight. For most Indian factory, warehouse, and manufacturing environments, a certified lightweight shoe is not a compromise. For extreme rough terrain or foundry environments, a heavier construction-grade boot may still be preferred. See: Sneaker Safety Shoes Full Guide →
